TBCA 2021 Projects
Please remember that 100% of your donation goes directly to our charitable
projects. Not one penny of your donation will go to TBCA’s overhead.
Very few charities in the world can make this statement!
In 2021, thanks to your donations, TBCA continued to help fund the
humanitarian projects of Geshe Pema Dorjee, including the following:
-
TBCA provided student sponsorships and scholarships to the Bodong
monastery school in Kathmandu, Nepal. These funds support young boys
who come from impoverished families in remote Himalayan areas where
educational opportunities are not available. Your donations to TBCA
provide these boys with a safe and caring place to live (including full room
and board), a rigorous education, clothing, and medical care. The teachers
and staff at the monastery school serve as role models because they live the
humanitarian and ethical principles that they teach. Eventually some of the
young men choose to become fully ordained monks, while others choose to
return to their villages and become meaningful and helpful members of
their community. -
This year, TBCA was able to ensure that the students and staff at the
Bodong monastery school received vaccinations against Covid-19. -
TBCA continued to support 64 elderly and handicapped people in remote
villages in northeast Arunachal Pradesh, India. This project is carried out by
the same volunteer committee that successfully managed our Stove Project.
Twice a year they venture out to these villages and provide money, blankets,
clothing, and general care to the elderly and handicapped. The committee,
made up of local teachers and 11 students, must often travel by foot through
the mountains because many of the villages are unreachable by road. -
Geshe Pema Dorjee often encounters people in need of emergency medical
or surgical care. To help handle this need, he often calls upon TBCA, and
we send the emergency funds promptly. -
TBCA sent donations to the Green Tara Charitable Organization which
runs the Tara Bodong Nunnery which Geshe Pema Dorjee established in
Arunachal Pradesh, India. This nunnery is similar to the Bodong monastery
except that at the nunnery it is young girls who are given a safe home and
good education while being shielded from the risk of human trafficking. -
In Nepal, there are many stray dogs. They are fed by generous people and
by shops and restaurants. During the Covid-19 lockdown, however, people
rarely ventured out, and the shops and restaurants were closed. Because the
dogs were starving, an animal welfare group called GAVA organized
volunteers to cook for and supply food to these hungry “outdoor pets.” At
Geshe Pema Dorjee’s request, some of TBCA’s donors contributed funds
through TBCA to help this project.
